INTRODUCTION

The rules and policies within this document apply to all players. 

This Tournament Ruleset for the Quake® Champions PGL® Open is considered a living document and may be updated and modified at any time, for any reason. Rulings outside the scope of this document may be made to preserve fair play and tournament integrity. The PGL Open is sponsored by Bethesda Softworks LLC (“Bethesda”)

GENERAL

VENUE

The event will take place in PGL Studios from Bucharest, Romania. The complete address of the studios is: Dimitrie Pompeiu Boulevard No. 9-9A, Iride Business Park, Building No. 2, Ground Floor, Bucharest, Romania, 020335.

TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

Each player needs to maintain responsibility in arriving on time to utilize their allotted warmup time before the set match time.

The times provided need to be adhered to and may not be flexible unless previously approved.

EQUIPMENT TO BRING

Players must provide their own peripherals: mouse, mousepad, keyboard, headphones, earbuds. Mice and keyboards must utilize standard USB interfaces.

All Player equipment is subject to the approval of PGL and the designated tournament admins.

PGL reserves the right to inspect all player equipment and deny the use of any equipment, device or other item suspected of providing an unfair advantage.

Players, coaches or managers are not allowed to use USB flash drives, unplug anything from a tournament PC, monitor, audio equipment or touch power units/cords without a tournament official’s permission.

Prize money may be subject to applicable tax withholding.

FORMAT – DUEL

All players will be seeded into the double elimination bracket based on past performance in online and offline competitions.

Day 1 – Double Elimination Bracket (Best of 3 Maps) Top 16 Players advance to Day 2

Day 2 – 4 GSL Groups of 4 Players (Best of 3 Maps)

Day 3 – Single Elimination Bracket (Quarters – Best of 3 Maps) (Semi/Finals Best of 5 Maps)

  • Flip a coin – Coin flip winner becomes Player A, Coin flip loser becomes Player B
  • Player B bans the first Champion from the match (Neither team can choose this Champion for all maps)
  • Player A bans the second Champion from the match (Neither team can choose this Champion for all maps)
  • Player A chooses the first map to be played in the set.
  • Player B chooses the second map to be played in the set.
  • Player A removes a map from the remaining 5 maps.
  • Player B removes a map from the remaining 4 maps.
  • Player A removes a map from the remaining 3 maps.
  • Player B removes a map from the remaining 2 maps.
  • Final map left in the pool is the fifth map in the set.

Frag Limit Per Round: 3

Time Limit Per Round: 5 Minutes

DISCONNECTS

If a player disconnects involuntarily in the middle of a map, play will immediately stop and players will be instructed to return to the lobby.  The current score line will be recorded and carry over to the map restart. The fraglimit will be manually calculated to the map restart. If it is determined that the player who disconnected in the middle of the map did so to gain any advantage, that team will forfeit the map.

TOURNAMENT RULES / POLICIES

All Players are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship and maintain respect for one another and for all developers, publishers, tournament organizers, and spectators. Additionally, any defamation of the brand or associated companies and staff in relationship to the PGL Open or Quake Champions whether in person, or on any digital platform including but not limited to any and all social media and chat programs may result in a ruling by committee that can result in a forfeit of potential prizes, suspension or ban from sponsored event participation.

Violating any policy in this section may result in a verbal or written warning, forfeiture of a round, forfeiture of a match, reduction in prize money, or a combination of these penalties.

BEHAVIOR

Players will follow all rules of the venue as designated by PGL.

Players are not allowed to break any furniture or damage other PGL equipment.

Players are expected to conduct themselves professionally throughout the entirety of the event. Warnings and penalties may be awarded for the following:

Profanity

Threats or implied violence

Destruction of equipment

Tardiness & Absenteeism

Refusal to follow tournament staff instructions.

Harassment

Violation of Tournament Rules

Please be respectful of all Hotel/Tournament staff and areas, during this trip you are representing Bethesda and all parties involved.

ELIGIBILITY

All participants must be 18 years or older.

ADMINS

“Admins” are the official representatives of the tournament during the event. The referees are empowered to represent and protect the league’s integrity, tournament rules and are responsible for the players during the event.

If any questions or problems arise during the event, you must engage the Admins directly, none other. If you do engage someone that is not an Admin, and the information given to you is incorrect, or if you wait too long to report a problem even during the live event, you will be responsible for the consequences that occur. Admins have up to date information on match times, match rules, any potential in game variances.

Instructions and requests by the referees present at the event need to be followed immediately without delay at all times. Referees may make decisions that differ from the rulebook to protect the league’s integrity

Any issue that impacts player gameplay must be reported to an Admin immediately

Every team/ player is responsible for communicating any unplayable conditions.

No bags, backpacks or phones will be allowed on tournament stages

Warm-up schedule will be enforced by administrators.

Teams/Players that are scheduled to play immediately following the current tournament match have priority on the warm-up stations over teams that are scheduled to play later in the day.

PUNCTUALITY

We expect every player to be at the event 60 minutes before scheduled match start to set up, prepare and solve any technical problems that might occur. If you notice at any point you will be late on one of the days, please inform a tournament official as soon as possible. Any delays caused by showing up late may lead to penalties.

15 minutes before the match start: You must be present at your station and at that point you cannot leave without referee approval. If you need to leave for any reason after this period, you will need to get the approval of the referee, including restroom and smoke breaks. At any point during your warm up a tournament admin may ask you to discontinue the game, these commands from any Admin need to be followed.

BREAKS BETWEEN GAMES AND SERIES

Standard break time between games in a Best of 3 series is 5 – 10 minutes.

Standard break time between series is 10 minutes.

If the break time extends due to unforeseen circumstances, players will be informed by a tournament official.

PLAYER MOBILE PHONES/DEVICES

Players have to hand over to admin all their pads, phones and other electronic devices until the match is over.

No phones or other electronic devices are allowed on the player’s table during the matches.

CLOTHING

Headwear while on stage is not allowed due to its potential to interfere with noise-canceling headphones.

BETTING

Betting on matches in a league/tournament that you or your team are involved in is strictly forbidden. Betting against yourself or against your own team will be punished by disqualification for the team/player taking part in the league/tournament and a minimum of a twelve month participation ban from all Bethesda sponsored events for the player who arranged the bet.

PENALTIES

Failure to show up on time at the venue can limit or completely deplete a player’s time for warm-up. Matches will not be delayed due to players showing up late at the venue and being unable to practice.

Mistreatment of tournament officials can result in, but is not limited to, the loss of hero ban advantage, game forfeit, up to the disqualification from the tournament.

Players found to be cheating will be immediately disqualified from the tournament.

For the first violation of the rules, if not otherwise stated, a player will receive a warning.

For subsequent violations of the rules, penalties include, but are not limited to: the forfeit of the current game, up to the disqualification from the tournament, at the tournament official’s sole discretion.

PHOTO / MEDIA RIGHTS

By participating, all players grant PGL/Bethesda the right to use their name and any photographic, audio or video material on their website or for any other promotional purpose.

Players and teams may be asked to be available before and after matches for interviews or other media materials.

INTERNET ACCESS

Under no circumstances are you allowed to unplug any network cables or to change any network settings. Furthermore, it is strictly forbidden to plug in any devices into event/studio network (e.g. laptop).

POWER STRIPS

It’s strictly forbidden to plug in any devices (e.g. laptops and cell-phone charges) into the power bars within tournament areas.

FINAL NOTES

If the rules do not cover a particular situation or string of events, PGL and the tournament staff will have the final word on the matter.

Rulings will always be made in the spirit of the regulations.

PGL and the tournament staff will always try, to the extent allowed by the rulebook and the situation itself, to resolve an issue in a fair way for all parties involved.

If needed to preserve the fair play and integrity of the tournament, the rules can be amended, modified or supplemented. Players will be informed immediately when such a modification occurs.

PGL will have the final ruling on all tournament matters.
